KNODOS Echo — Click Feedback Espresso Tamper, 58.3mm
The Echo is not just another spring-loaded tamper. It is the only tamper in the KNODOS lineup with an audible click mechanism that tells you — through sound and feel — the exact moment target compression is reached. One click, every time, same pressure, same puck. No springs to swap mid-session, no mental calibration. Just press until it clicks, and pull your shot.
Click Feedback: The Difference You Hear
Most calibrated tampers bottom out silently against a spring. You feel a vague resistance, you guess, you lift. The Echo works differently. A precision-machined internal mechanism produces a distinct, audible click at the target force. You hear it. You feel it in your fingertips. That is your signal — not a soft stop, not a gradual fade, but a sharp, unmistakable confirmation that the puck is compressed to the exact same density as the last one.
58.3mm Stainless Steel Flat Base
The base is machined to 58.3mm — sized to match the inner diameter of standard 58mm portafilter baskets with tight tolerances. Unlike ripple or convex bases, the Echo uses a flat profile. Flat compression distributes force evenly across the entire coffee bed, producing a puck with uniform density from center to edge. Combined with the click mechanism, this means every tamp is both level and consistent.
Dual Spring System
The Echo ships with a 30lb spring installed and includes a 20lb replacement. The 30lb provides firm, decisive feedback — most users prefer this for medium to dark roasts and standard dose sizes. The 20lb spring offers a softer stop for lighter roasts, finer grinds, or users who prefer less resistance. Swapping takes under a minute.
Solid Walnut Handle
Turned from a single piece of walnut, the handle is shaped for a natural palm grip and weighted to balance the tool slightly above the base. Walnut's tight grain and natural oils make it resistant to moisture from steam and cleaning. The warm, dark tone pairs well with both modern and classic espresso setups.
Built for the Ritual
The Echo is designed for people who pull espresso every day and want to remove the last variable from their routine. Grind, dose, distribute, tamp — click — pull. The feedback loop closes the gap between guessing and knowing. Over time, the click becomes part of the rhythm. You stop thinking about tamping pressure entirely.
What Ships
1x KNODOS Echo Espresso Tamper (58.3mm flat base, walnut handle, 30lb click spring installed)
1x 20lb Replacement Click Spring
Machine Compatibility
Fits 58mm portafilter baskets on E61 group head machines, Gaggia Classic and Classic Pro, Rancilio Silvia, Rocket, ECM, Profitec, and Breville Dual Boiler and Oracle models. The 58.3mm base is designed for baskets with tighter tolerances. If your basket measures 58.5mm inside, consider the standard KNODOS 58.5mm tamper instead.
Questions About the Echo
How is the Echo different from other KNODOS tampers?
The Echo is the only KNODOS tamper with audible click feedback. Standard KNODOS tampers use a spring that bottoms out silently — you feel resistance but there is no distinct signal. The Echo produces a sharp click at the target force, giving you a clear, repeatable endpoint for every tamp.
Is click feedback better than a standard calibrated spring?
For consistency, yes. A standard spring gives you a gradual stop — the force increases until you decide to lift. Different users lift at different points, which means different pressures. The Echo's click removes that ambiguity. When it clicks, you stop. Same force, every time, regardless of who is tamping.
Why does the Echo only include two springs instead of three?
The click mechanism is tuned to work with specific spring weights. The 30lb and 20lb springs are the two settings that produce the cleanest, most distinct click. Adding a third spring would compromise the feedback quality that makes the Echo different.
Why 58.3mm instead of 58.5mm?
The Echo uses a flat base — not a ripple pattern. Flat bases require slightly tighter clearance to distribute force evenly to the edges. At 58.3mm, the base sits close enough to the basket wall for full coverage without binding. A 58.5mm flat base would be too tight in many standard baskets.
Can I use the Echo with a bottomless portafilter?
Yes. The Echo is an ideal training companion for bottomless portafilters. The click gives you consistent puck compression, which makes it easier to isolate grind and distribution as variables when diagnosing channeling or uneven flow.
How long does the click mechanism last?
The mechanism is built from stainless steel internals and is designed for tens of thousands of cycles. There are no plastic parts or wear surfaces in the click assembly. Under normal home use, the mechanism will outlast the espresso machine it is paired with.
How does the KNODOS Echo compare to the Normcore tamper?
The KNODOS Echo is fully stainless steel — body, base, and internals. The Normcore tamper uses an aluminum body, which is lighter but less durable. The all-steel construction makes the Echo nearly twice as heavy, which translates to more natural tamping pressure and a more stable, planted feel during puck prep. Steel also resists scratches, dents, and corrosion better than aluminum over years of daily use. The Echo adds click feedback on top of that — an audible confirmation when the spring reaches calibrated pressure, which the Normcore does not have.
