Why Switch to Bottomless

A spouted portafilter divides the espresso into two streams and hides everything happening between the basket and your cup. A bottomless portafilter removes the floor. You see where the espresso exits the basket, how it collects into a stream, and whether that stream is centered or drifting. Channeling shows up as side squirts. Uneven distribution shows up as lopsided flow. These are problems you cannot fix if you cannot see them.

18–21g Double Shot Basket

Comes with a stainless steel basket rated for 18 to 21 grams — the standard dose window for most espresso recipes. The basket sits in the portafilter body and lifts out for cleaning or replacement. Any standard 58mm basket fits, including precision baskets from VST, IMS, and other aftermarket manufacturers.

Walnut Handle

The most popular handle choice in the KNODOS lineup. Walnut has a warm, mid-tone brown grain that looks natural against chrome E61 group heads and stainless steel machine bodies. It is lighter than rosewood but denser than maple — a balanced middle ground in both weight and color. The wood is naturally moisture-resistant and does not need oiling or sealing. The handle attaches with a standard screw and is pre-installed out of the box.

Stainless Steel Construction

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my machine has an E61 group head?

E61 group heads have a distinctive mushroom-shaped design with a lever on the front. They are the most common group head on prosumer and semi-commercial espresso machines. Your machine's specifications page will confirm the group head type. If it says E61, this portafilter fits.

I already have a spouted portafilter — do I still need a bottomless one?

A spouted portafilter is fine for everyday use. A bottomless portafilter adds diagnostic ability — it shows you what your puck prep looks like from below the basket. Most home baristas keep both and switch depending on whether they are dialing in or just making a drink.

Will this fit my Lelit MaraX or Bianca?

Yes. Both the Lelit MaraX and Bianca use standard E61 group heads with 2-ear lugs. This portafilter locks in on either machine.

Can I use this portafilter for backflushing?

Backflushing requires a blind basket, not a filter basket. Insert a blind basket into this portafilter and backflush as normal. The bottomless design does not affect the process.

Why walnut over maple or rosewood for an E61 portafilter?

Walnut is the most neutral option — not too light, not too dark, not too heavy, not too light. It matches most machine finishes and sits in the middle of the weight range. Maple is brighter and lighter. Rosewood is darker and heavier. All three are durable and moisture-resistant.
