KNODOS 58.5mm Espresso Distribution Tool — Maple Handle, Adjustable Depth

An espresso leveler that spins on top of the coffee grounds inside your portafilter and pushes them into an even, flat bed before tamping. The 58.5mm base fits portafilters with precision baskets from IMS, VST, and Pullman. Adjustable depth lets you set how deep the blades reach. Stainless steel body with a hand-turned maple handle.

    What a Coffee Distributor Does

After dosing and WDT, the surface of the grounds is uneven — mounded in the center, thin at the edges. A distributor fixes this. Place it on the grounds, spin gently, and the angled blades push coffee outward from center to edge. The result is a flat, even surface. When you tamp on top of an already-level bed, the puck compresses uniformly — and uniform pucks extract evenly.

    Adjustable Depth

The base threads up and down to set how deep the blades sit inside the portafilter. Turn the base to match your dose — deeper for larger doses, shallower for smaller ones. Once set, it stays consistent shot after shot.

    58.5mm Sizing

This distributor is 58.5mm — designed for precision baskets (IMS, VST, Pullman) with a slightly larger internal diameter than stock 58mm baskets. If your basket measures 58.5mm inside, this is correct. If you use the stock basket, the 58mm version may be a better fit.

    Maple Handle

Turned from solid maple — light, hard, fine-grained. Matches KNODOS maple tampers and portafilters. Moisture-resistant and easy to grip.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a distributor if I already use a WDT tool?

They do different things. WDT breaks clumps. A distributor levels the surface after WDT. The ideal workflow is: dose, WDT, distribute, tamp.

What is the difference between 58mm and 58.5mm?

Stock baskets measure about 58mm inside. Aftermarket precision baskets from IMS, VST, and Pullman measure 58.5mm. Choose the size that matches your basket, not your portafilter.

How do I set the correct depth?

Place the distributor on your grounds. If it sits too high, thread the base down. If it compresses too much, thread it up. The blades should contact the top layer and push it level without compressing the puck.

Can I use a distributor without tamping after?

No. A distributor levels but does not compress. You still need to tamp after distributing to create a properly compressed puck for extraction.
